Amethyst is one of the most popular crystals and gemstones in the world.
More about amethyst
The color of amethyst is due to the presence of iron in the rock where it grew. Sometimes there is also a natural irradiation, radiation, in the rock that affects the color. Amethyst is found all over the world, including in Sweden, but the crystals in Sweden are very small. Uruguay and Brazil are known for their beautiful amethysts.
There are many different types of amethyst, and they all have their own appearance and origin. Chevron amethyst from Brazil and Africa is recognizable by its distinct V-shaped patterns of white quartz and purple amethyst. Bahia amethyst from Brazil is often deep violet and has fine, clear, long, narrow crystal tips. Amethyst from Uruguay tends to have the most beautiful and darkest purple color. Vera Cruz amethyst from Mexico is lighter with longer, narrow tips, but very clear and pure in color. Brandberg amethyst from Namibia is a special blend of amethyst, rock crystal and smoky quartz, sometimes with exciting “shadow-like” formations inside. Pink amethyst from Argentina has a soft pink-purple tone that makes it unique.
Spiritual properties of amethyst
Amethyst is often seen as a stone that helps the soul open up and lift its gaze. Many describe its purple energy as making it easier to see the bigger picture, understand one's life from a more holistic perspective, and gain clarity about what is truly important. It is said to create a kind of inner peace that allows one to take a step back, see patterns previously missed, and feel greater meaning in what is happening.
At the same time, many believe that amethyst raises one's energy level in a soft but clear way. It helps to clear away heavier thoughts and emotions, so that one becomes more receptive to intuitive guidance and deeper insights. During meditation or stillness, the stone can provide a clearer flow, which makes it easier to feel connected to one's inner self, one's life path and the spiritual in a more present way. For many, amethyst becomes a companion that reminds one of direction, clarity and a higher perspective.
Meditate with amethyst
Sit comfortably with your feet on the floor and a pillow behind your back so that you are sitting straight but still relaxed. Light a candle and play some relaxing music.
- Hold the amethyst in your hands in your lap.
- Close your eyes and let your breathing become deep and present. Focus on breathing relaxedly, don't try to control your breathing. Just allow it to take its place and feel comfortable. Experiment and feel yourself landing more here and now.
- Bring to your mind something that you experience as a problem in life. Don't take on the biggest and most difficult problems first, take on something less difficult as you learn this exercise.
- Paint a concrete picture of the problem in front of your inner vision or feeling. Let the picture include a place, people, environment and situation.
- Let yourself soar above the problem and see what it looks like all around you, rise even higher and see the problem's place in your entire life, in the society where you live, in Sweden, in the world.
- Hang in there, study your problem, paint it out, look at it from all angles, how it connects to other things... let it spread out down there and give yourself the experience of being above your problem.
- When you feel content and embraced by the whole situation, you can go back to your breathing and let the problem slide away. Give yourself presence to your breath again and feel the peace that your body loves every breath.
- Thank yourself for giving yourself both time and perspective.
- Open your eyes.
You can do this exercise with a friend or partner. One person reads the text aloud to the other - who tells and describes what it sees, and then you change.
