Earrings with cabochon cut stones

A cabochon-cut gemstone has a flat underside and a slightly rounded polished top.
The cabochon-cut stone is mounted in jewelry with the curved side outwards and the flat side inward toward the body. The cabochon cut stone can be oval, square, round or have other more imaginative shapes and is certainly one of the most ancient methods of mounting a stone in a piece of jewelry.
