Eclogite is a rare and impressive rock that carries stories from the Earth's deepest layers. It forms at depths of between 40 and 100 kilometers, where basaltic rocks are forced down into subduction zones and transformed under immense pressure and heat. The result is a dramatic combination of deep red garnet and green omphacite – a spectacular array of colors that makes eclogite as beautiful as it is rare.
Eclogite comes from Norway, the Alps, the Himalayas, and Brazil, but also from Sweden, primarily in Jämtland and Härjedalen. This eclogite comes from Norway.
