Eclogite is an unusual and powerful rock that carries stories from the deepest layers of the Earth. It forms at depths of between 40 and 100 kilometers, where basaltic rocks are pushed down into subduction zones and transformed under enormous pressure and heat. The result is a dramatic combination of deep red garnet and green omphacite – a splendor of color that makes eclogite as beautiful as it is rare.
