The stone is set in silver with a gold plating called gold vermeil. Gold vermeil requires a base of 925 sterling silver (no cheap metals like brass) and a gold layer of at least 2.5 microns, which is five times thicker than regular plating. The gold in this jewelry is 18 karat.
