Prasiolite – the green amethyst
Prasiolite is also called green amethyst, prasem, vermarine or chrysoquartz. It occurs in a transformation process when amethyst is heated, naturally or by man. It gets its soft green color from iron in the crystal, but because the color can fade easily, it is most often produced by heat treating purple amethyst. Other names for the stone are prase, vermarine, and chrysoquartz.
